Schools Shut in Punjab Flood-Hit Districts Due to Safety Reasons

Lahore / Sialkot / Narowal / Okara – August 31, 2025:
The authorities in Punjab have directed educational institutes in flood-affected districts to be shut down due to heavy rain and increasing river levels, which made several school campuses waterlogged.

Sialkot: Schools Closed till September 5

The Sialkot Deputy Commissioner (DC) announced on Saturday that the district’s public and private schools will be closed from September 1 to September 5.
The decision was made after stagnant water was found within school campuses, rendering the place unsafe for children, teachers, and staff. The directive is as per the instructions of the Punjab School Education Department.

Narowal: Shutdown Extended to September 7

In Narowal, the school vacations have been prolonged to September 7, as the flood condition continues to interfere with routine life. The authorities informed that the extension was made to safeguard students until relief and rehabilitation work is in progress.

Okara: Flood-Prone Regions On High Alert

The DC of Okara has also ordered the closure of schools in flood-risk regions of the district until September 7 due to an increase in the levels of Sutlej and Ravi rivers.

Lahore: All Schools Except 45 Reopen

In the meantime, the DC of Lahore confirmed that all schools, both government and private, in the city would open on September 1.
